RESOLUTION NO. 2007-440
Resolution authorizing acceptance of a Safe Routes to School Planning Grant to fund the
creation of a Safe Routes to School Plan.
WHEREAS, the Common Council of the City of Janesville recognizes the benefits of creating safe routes
for children to walk/bike to and from school; and
WHEREAS, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation has approved the City's application for Safe
Routes to School Planning Grant to fund a Safe Routes to School Plan for the K-8 schools in the
Janesville School District; and
WHEREAS, the plan would identify the preferred travel routes for children walking and biking to and from
school, and other destinations; and
WHEREAS, the plan would identify any deficiencies in these routes and establish a listing of priority
infrastructure projects to be implemented through future applications for Safe Routes to School funds;
and
WHEREAS, federal/state funds for project completion have been made available to the city on a 100
percent non-local basis through the Safe Routes to School Grant; and
WHEREAS, the grant, in the amount of $20,000 and funded entirely through federal/state sources, will
create a Safe Routes to School Plan, completed by the Janesville Area Metropolitan Planning
Organization,
WHEREAS, the Common Council finds that this project and funding are in the best interest of the city,
and of benefit to the community.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF JANESVILLE
that the City Manager be authorized to accept the Safe Routes to School Planning Grant from the
Wisconsin Department of Transportation and take any other such action as may be necessary to
facilitate the execution of the grant.
