RESOLUTION NO. 2007-422
A Resolution amending the 2007 Police Department expenditure funding to provide
funding to implement a police K-9 Team.
Whereas, police K-9 Teams have been proven an effective crime prevention and crime
suppression tool in support of community policing strategies;
Whereas, a police K-9 Team is a proactive approach to crime prevention and suppression
in the City of Janesville;
Whereas, implementation of a police K-9 Team provides unique and needed resources for
the Police Department including, tracking, protection, and narcotics detection;
Whereas, implementation of a police K-9 Team provides improved officer safety
reducing risks involved in searches and apprehensions;
Whereas, implementation of police K-9 Team is in the best interest of public safety ofthe
community as a whole;
Whereas, the 2007 Police Department Budget does not contain specific funds for three
months of operational costs for a police K-9 Team;
Whereas, Council Policy Statement #58 requires the Council's approval to amend the
current year' budget to "provide for a new or significantly expanded program activity or a
new capital item (greater than $2,000) for which funding will not exceed the original
program appropriation";
Whereas, the Common Council finds that it is in the best interest of the City to provide a
budget adjustment to fund the implementation of a police K-9 Team;
Whereas, such budget adjustment is not intended to exceed the overall available funding
provided in the 2007 Adopted Police Department budget;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of
Janesville, that it hereby authorizes a budget adjustment to the 2007 Police Department
budget to be made in the amount of four thousand seven hundred and twenty five dollars
($4,725) for the implementation of a police K-9 Team.
