RESOLUTION NO. 2007-382
A resolution authorizing the City's participation and funding of a Safe Routes to School Plan.
WHEREAS, the Common Council of the City of Janesville recognizes the benefits of creating safe routes
for children to walk/bike to and from school; and
WHEREAS, the current WisDOT submittal is to fund a Safe Routes to School Plan for the K-8 schools in
the Janesville School District; and
WHEREAS, the plan would identify the preferred routes for children walking and biking to and from
school, and other destinations; and
WHEREAS, the plan would identify any deficiencies in these routes and establish a listing of priority
infrastructure projects to be implemented through future applications for Safe Routes to School funds;
and
WHEREAS, federal/state funds for project completion have been made available to the city on a 100
percent non-local basis through the Safe Routes to School Grant; and
WHEREAS, the total estimated cost of a citywide comprehensive Safe Routes to School Plan, completed
by the Janesville Area Metropolitan Planning Organization, is $20,000, funded entirely through
federal/state sources.
WHEREAS, the Common Council finds that this project and funding are in the best interest of the city,
and of benefit to the community.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF JANESVILLE
that the City Manager be authorized to submit a grant application to the Wisconsin Department of
Transportation and take any other such action as may be necessary to facilitate the grant application.
