RESOLUTION NO. 2006-353
A resolution Recognizing Gary L. Smith for his service to the United Way and the
Janesville community.
WHEREAS, Mr. Gary L. Smith has served as President of the United Way of North
Rock County since February 20, 1990; and
WHEREAS, Gary will retire on December 31, 2006 after having diligently served the
United Way and the Janesville community for sixteen years; and
WHEREAS, he has a Bachelor of Career Arts degree in Business Administration from
Dallas Baptist College and is a veteran of the United States Navy where he was a Petty
Officer First Class Dental Technician; and
WHEREAS, during Gary's service to the community, he provided exemplary
professional leadership, including the implementation of the Volunteer Network
Program, the Loaned Executive Program and the First Call Program; and
WHEREAS, he was instrumental in establishing the Campaign Director position for the
United Way's annual fund drive and the Youth Violence Prevention Task Force; and
WHEREAS, he has been involved in many community organizations, including the
Janesville Noon Rotary Club, the Juvenile Court Advisory Board, the Private Industry
Council of Rock County and the Community Foundation of Southern Wisconsin; and
WHEREAS, it is desired that such commendable service to the United Way, the
community and residents of Janesville be properly recognized.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED By the Common Council of the City of
Janesville, on the 2yth day of November, 2006, that the people of the City of Janesville,
through the City Council, do recognize Mr. Gary L. Smith for his admirable
accomplishments during his sixteen year career as President of the United Way of
North Rock County; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by the Common Council that all Janesville citizens are
called upon to acknowledge and appreciate Mr. Gary L. Smith for his exemplary service
and dedication to the United Way and the Janesville community.
