RESOLUTION NO. 2006-335
A Resolution Authorizing a Grant Application to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation for Safety
Improvements to Sidewalks and Paved Trails in Close Proximity to Exposed Culverts.
WHEREAS, the Janesville City Council recognizes the need to improve the safety of paved trails and sidewalks,
particularly those in close proximity to exposed culverts; and
WHEREAS, several locations have been identified near sidewalks and paved trails that could pose a hazard for sidewalk
and trail users; and
WHEREAS, construction of fencing would lessen the chance of an accident and improve the safety of the paved trail and
sidewalk network; and
WHEREAS, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation will provide state/federal funds for project construction and
labor on a 90 percent non-local, 10 percent local basis; and
WHEREAS, the total estimated construction cost of the culvert fencing is $25,000 with 90%, or $22,500, being funded
through state/federal sources and the remaining 10%, or $2,500, being funded through local sources; and
NOW THEREFORE LET IT BE RESOLVED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF JANESVILLE
that the City Manager be authorized to submit a grant application to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation and take
any other such action as may be necessary to facilitate the grant application.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF JANESVILLE that the City
Council intends to fund the City's share of said paved trail and sidewalk improvements from the Stormwater Utility.
