RESOLUTION NO. 2006·312
A resolution Recognizing World Elder Abuse Awareness Day
WHEREAS, area seniors serve as leaders, mentors, volunteers and are important and
active members of the Janesville community; and
WHEREAS, American seniors are valued members of society and it is our collective
responsibility to ensure they live safely and with dignity; and
WHEREAS, abuse of older people is a tragedy inflicted on vulnerable seniors arid is an
ever-increasing problem in today's society that crosses all socio-economic boundaries;
and
WHEREAS, combating abuse of older people will help improve the quality of life for all
seniors across the United States and will allow seniors to continue to live as
independently as possible and contribute to the vibrancy of Janesville, Rock County, the
State of Wisconsin and this nation as a whole; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED By the Common Council of the City of
Janesville, on this the 12th day of June 2006, that June 15, 2006 be recognized as
"World Elder Abuse Awareness Day"; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by the Common Council that all Janesville citizens are
called upon to celebrate the accomplishments of our seniors and acknowledge the
importance of eliminating elder abuse in our community, country and world.
