A resolution recognizing the week of May 21-27 as "National Public Works Week"
WHEREAS, In 1960, the American Public Works Association instituted "National Public
Works Week" as a public education campaign which calls attention to the importance of
public works in community life; and
WHEREAS, Public works infrastructure, facilities, and services are of vital importance to
the health, safety, and comfort of the citizens of Janesville; and
WHEREAS, Such facilities and services could not be provided without the dedicated
efforts of public works professionals, engineers and administrators from all levels of
government who are responsible for designing, building, operating and maintaining the
water supply, sewers, streets, public buildings, solid waste collection and disposal
systems, and other structures and programs essential to serve our citizens; and
WHEREAS, It is in the public interest for all citizens and civic leaders of Janesville to
learn about the array of facilities and services provided through the public works
infrastructure.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED the Common Council of the City of Janesville,
on this the 22nd day of May 2006, do hereby proclaim the week of May 21 to May 27 as
"National Public Works Week", and hereby call upon all citizens and civic organizations to
join the City, in conjunction with the American Public Works Association, in activities and
ceremonies designed to recognize the contributions which public works employees make
every day to our health, safety, comfort, and quality of life.
