RESOLUTION NO. 2006-265
A resolution authorizing the City's participation and funding of bicycle/pedestrian facilities
serving the westside of the City.
WHEREAS, the Common Council of the City of Janesville recognizes the benefits of creating trails that
link major activity centers; and
WHEREAS, the current WisDOT submittal is for the planned development of a westside trail from West
Court Street, near the Rockport Ridge Estates subdivision, north to Mineral Point Avenue, with an
underpass at West Court Street. The submittal also includes a connection to the parking lot at Parker
High School; and
WHEREAS, the proposed trail segment is intended to provide a safe, efficient means for bicyclists and
pedestrians to travel to work, home, or for recreation purposes; and
WHEREAS, the proposed trail segment is part of the City's long range trail plan, and is intended to
connect to the larger, city-wide transportation system in the future; and
WHEREAS, federal/state funds for project construction and design engineering have been made
available to the city on a 80 percent non-local, 20 percent local basis; and
WHEREAS, the total estimated construction cost of the bicycle/pedestrian trail is $810,000 with 80%, or
$648,000, being funded through federal/state sources and the remaining 20%, or $162,000, being
funded through local sources; and
WHEREAS, the Common Council finds that this public project and funding are in the best interest of the
city, and of benefit to the community.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF JANESVILLE
that the City Manager be authorized to submit a grant application to the Wisconsin Department of
Transportation and take any other such action as may be necessary to facilitate the grant application.
