RESOLUTION # 2006 - 264
A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE RENAMING OF RIVER'S EDGE PARK TO
FIREHOUSE PARK, AND THE RENOVATION AND ADOPTION OF THIS PARK BY
JANESVILLE FIREFIGHTERS LOCAL UNION 580 (File Resolution No. 2006-264)
WHEREAS, the Janesville Firefighters Union Local 580 has approached the City
of Janesville with the request to rename River's Edge Park to Firehouse Park to recognize
that this site as the location of the original east side fire house, and to permit a place to
honor fallen firefighters; and
WHEREAS, the Janesville Firefighters supported by Downtown Janesville
Incorporated wish to adopt this park and provide future care and maintenance of this park;
and
WHEREAS, the Janesville Firefighters wish to conduct fund raising to purchase
and install a life size bronze firefighter statue, and other park renovations and improvement
via the sale of personalized paver bricks to be installed at the park; and
WHEREAS, Downtown Janesville Incorporated, Downtown Development Alliance
and their Design Committee, and Janesville Art League believe this park project and art
works, to be in the best interest of the City of Janesville.
NOW, THEREFORE, LET IT BE RESOLVED By the Common Council of the
City of Janesville, on the 8th day of May, that the City accept the renaming of River's
Edge Park to Firehouse Park, the placement of a bronze statue and plaques, as well as
the renovation and adoption of said park in the 100 block of North Main Street and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by the Common Council that all Janesville Citizens
are called upon to especially thank and appreciate the Janesville Firefighters Union Local
580 and downtown volunteer group for their donation and community service to Janesville.
