ORDINANCE NO. 2006-320
An Ordinance revising the weight limit definition for the purposes of truck routes with a
stated penalty as provided in Section 12.48.080.
THE COMMON COUNCil OF THE CITY OF JANESVlllE DO ORDAIN AS
FOllOWS:
SECTION I: Section 12.48.020 of the Code of General Ordinances of the City of
Janesville is hereby amended as follows:
12.48.020 Vehicle Weight Restrictions-Generally. No person shall operate a
vehicle with a gross vehicle weight rating in excess of ~ sixteen thousand pounds
(as defined in Section 340.01 of the Wisconsin Statues) on any street or highway,
unless such street or highway is designated as a through arterial street in Section
10.16.010 of this code, except as provided in subsections A, B, and C of this section.
A. A person operating a vehicle with a gross vehicle weight rating in excess of ~
sixteen thousand pounds but less than thirty thousand pounds gross vehicle weight
rating may make pickups or deliveries at locations not on a through arterial street,
provided that such operated vehicle leaves from and returns to a through arterial street
at a point nearest to his immediate destination, unless the destination for the next
successive pickup or delivery is closer to the location of the past immediate pickup or
delivery.
B. A person operating a vehicle with a gross vehicle weight rating in excess of thirty
thousand pounds shall be subject to the requirements of subsection A of this section,
and in addition thereto shall make only one delivery or pickup on each deviation. A
"deviation" is defined as an interval in which a vehicle leaves and returns to a through
arterial street by the shortest possible route.
C. Vehicles owned by federal or state governments, or political subdivisions thereof
shall not be restricted as set forth in this section.
SECTION II: Section 12.48.050 of the Code of General Ordinances of the City of
Janesville is hereby amended as follows:
12.48.050 Vehicle Weight Restrictions-Vehicles Traveling Through City. No
person shall operate a vehicle with a gross vehicle weight rating in excess of ~
sixteen thousand pounds (as defined in Section 340.01 of the Wisconsin Statutes) on
any street other than federal or state trunk highways when making trips through the
City.
