2025-2340RESOLUTION NO. 2025-2340 A resolution to recognize the Week of May 18 - 24, 2025 as Emergency Medical Services Week in the City of Janesville. WHEREAS, Emergency Medical Services is a vital public service; and WHEREAS, the members of the City of Janesville Fire Department provide day-to-day Advanced Life Support Emergency Medical Services care to those in need in all conditions; and WHEREAS, access to quality Advanced Life Support emergency care dramatically improves the survival and recovery rate of those who experience sudden illness or injury; and WHEREAS, the members of the Janesville Fire Department are committed to high-quality care for our community; and WHEREAS, This year’s EMS Week theme is “We Care. For Everyone.” the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians partners with the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) on EMS Week to encourage the nationwide recognition of EMS Week and contributions of EMS professionals; and WHEREAS, the Janesville Fire Department works greatly to advance the safety and overall well-being of the community; and WHEREAS, Emergency Medical Technicians and Paramedics are the first responders of the emergency medical services system; and WHEREAS, Emergency Medical Technicians and Paramedics are cross-trained to respond to Hazardous Materials, Tactical, and Technical Rescue emergencies; and WHEREAS, members of emergency medical services teams engage in thousands of hours of specialized training and continuing education to enhance their lifesaving skills; and WHEREAS, the Janesville Fire Department cared for 8,162 patients and experienced 7,624 EMS responses in 2024; and WHEREAS, it is appropriate to recognize the value and the accomplishments of Emergency Medical Services providers in the City of Janesville by designating Emergency Medical Services Week. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of Janesville on this 12th day of May 2025, that the week of May 18 to May 24 be observed as “Emergency Medical Services Week,” and call upon all Janesville citizens to especially honor and show our appreciation for the City of Janesville Fire Department EMTs and Paramedics by deed, remark, and attitude.
