WHEREAS, election workers are temporarily recruited and trained to provide an invaluable
function to our City on Election Day and the lead-up to it, and are one of this community’s
most valuable resources; and
WHEREAS, election workers are truly the unsung heroes of our democracy who are
trained to provide on-site support to voters at Election Day polling places and during early
in-person absentee voting. They are responsible for everything from registering and
checking voters in, making sure voting machines are working properly, setting up and
closing polling places, and delivering accurate election results to their clerk for reporting.
WHEREAS, these individuals are on the front lines of elections and will interact with
hundreds, if not thousands of voters throughout their work; and
WHEREAS, it is rare to maintain election workers for a time period of twenty years or more;
and
WHEREAS, elections are also the foundation of our democracy who work tirelessly to
protect this critical infrastructure while maintaining public confidence and trust in the
outcome of our electoral processes; and
WHEREAS, the individuals being recognized today have served through difficult political
periods and during the COVID-19 pandemic that created complexities in the administration
of elections requiring election officials to conduct accurate and timely elections while
protecting the safety of election workers and the voting public; and
WHEREAS, election officials and workers have met the challenges presented by
presidential elections where the voting public, the media and the candidates place
additional strain on the role they play in protecting and administering elections;

resolution recognize and show deep appreciation of all election officials who serve in
elections, but especially the select few who have served in this capacity for 20 years or
