2024-2254FILE RESOLUTION NO. 2024-2254 A resolution supporting the Children’s Museum of Rock County’s application to the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) Community Development Investment Grant Program. WHEREAS, the WEDC’s Community Development Investment Grant Program helps transform communities by supporting local development that is as unique as the communities in Wisconsin; and WHEREAS, the Board of the Children’s Museum of Rock County has developed plans to transform the vacant historic property at 100 West Milwaukee Street in Janesville, preserving the building’s iconic façade while revitalizing the space into a unique, state-of- the-art facility where youth can experience the joy of learning; and WHEREAS, according to U.S. Census data, Janesville is home to approximately 14,600 residents under 18 years old, representing only a fraction of the children in the broader region, and youth spend only a portion of their time in school with their families often left looking for additional educational activities to engage their young learners. WHEREAS, according to the American Alliance of Museums, for every $1 of funding they receive from all levels of government, museums return more than $5 in tax revenue, with every direct job created in the museum sector also bringing an additional job added in a different sector; and WHEREAS, the City of Janesville has recognized the potential impact of this landmark project through the enhancement of its historic downtown, community quality of life, learning outcomes, and economic development, with the Common Council of the City of Janesville allocating $2 million in City funds to help make this project possible; and NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE COMMON COUNCIL of the City of Janesville supports the Children’s Museum of Rock County’s application to the WEDC Community Development Investment Grant Program and encourages the WEDC to help make this transformative project possible through the award of this grant.
