A resolution recognizing faith communities and organizations for their many civic
contributions to Janesville
WHEREAS, faith-based communities and organizations across Janesville continue to
build fellowship and extend compassionate service beyond the walls of their places of
worship to offer support to residents in need; and
WHEREAS, faith-based communities and organizations provide crucial human
resources, such as volunteers and skilled professionals, and materials, such as food and
clothing, provided by food pantries at the faith community-sponsored ECHO Inc.,
Salvation Army Rock County, New Life Assembly of God, and many others, that can be
mobilized to support community members and the betterment of Janesville for all
residents.
WHEREAS, faith-based communities and organizations, through their empowering
initiatives, provide the opportunity for grassroots civic involvement, life skill training, and
other community improvement programs, such as the Salvation Army Rock County's Life
Hack Classes, which provides traditionally disadvantaged community members with
accessible financial information and tools necessary for economic independence,
inspiring residents to take active roles in shaping their lives and their neighborhoods.
WHEREAS, faith-based communities and organizations have the capability to form
alliances across religious, cultural, and organizational boundaries, such as the Janesville
Muslim Dawa Circle's Break Bread with Muslims event, which allows residents to learn
about one another, build diverse coalitions, and amplify their positive community impact
and reach.
WHEREAS, faith-based communities and organizations, driven by their core values, are
powerful advocates for social justice issues, raising awareness, challenging systemic
inequalities, and pushing for policy changes that benefit marginalized communities and
those residents often left unheard; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE COMMON COUNCIL of the City of
Janesville recognizes its faith communities and organizations for their many community
contributions to Janesville.
