#2 Meeting Minutes 1-5-11 GOLF COURSE ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING TH MINUTES OF JANUARY 5, 2011 st 1 Floor Conference Room Municipal Building 6:00 PM MEMBERS PRESENT: Clyde Hoeser, Debi Doiel, Steve Hiser, Curt Terry and Jan Bruss CITY STAFF PRESENT: Rebecca Smith and Jay Winzenz KEMPER SPORTS: Steve Loomis, Joe Schneider, Terry Hanley and Brendan McCarthy The meeting was called to order at 6:01 PM by Chairperson Clyde Hoeser in the First Floor Conference Room of the Municipal Building. APPROVAL OF MEETING MINUTES thth The minutes of the September 29, 2010 open meeting, the September 29, 2010 closed th session meeting and the March 17, 2010 closed session meeting were approved unanimously on a motion by Steve Hiser and seconded by Jan Bruss. INTRODUCTION OF KEMPER SPORTS Terry Hanley introduced himself and thanked the Committee for the opportunity to serve the City. Terry introduced Brendan McCarthy, public relations and marketing expert for the Midwest Region. Brendan has been examining competitive setups and assessing marketing opportunities. Steve Loomis introduced himself and said he is excited to be back in the area. He shared his background of learning to golf at Riverside Golf Course. Steve has been with Kemper Sports for over ten years. Jay Winzenz shared his desire to set up meetings with user groups and clubs that use the courses, such as the men’s and women’s leagues. Terry Hanley will also plan social events for user groups in order to meet them and gain feedback. Jay Winzenz shared the prospect of working with the Elks Club to cater events at Riverside Golf Course to bring in more outings and to be more competitive in the market. Jay also is in contact with the Public Links Association to share information and make them feel comfortable with regard to keeping the Ray Fischer Tournament in Janesville. Terry Hanley met with them and their consensus is to keep the tournament in Janesville. PROPOSAL OF 2011 GOLF COURSE FEES Jay Winzenz and Rebecca Smith informed the Committee that there will be no change in fees for 2011. They will remain the same as 2010. Terry Hanley suggested having a deadline for purchasing season passes and increasing the fee for season passes after that date. This would encourage golfers to purchase their pass early. Clyde Hoeser suggested that the non-resident fees be removed from the printed table presented to the Committee. Jay Winzenz stated it might be of benefit to keep the information on the table, as further examination of the rate schedules will take place for future years. The Committee also shared details of the reciprocal agreement with the pass holders to Steve and the Kemper staff. MANAGER’S REPORT Steve Loomis stated that he feels great about solidifying Kemper’s relationship with the WPGA regarding the Ray Fischer Tournament and is happy to be working at Riverside and Blackhawk Golf Courses. MATTERS NOT ON THE AGENDA Joe Schneider stated that a list of new equipment that might be needed has been developed and staff is evaluating the remaining equipment to develop a replacement schedule. A Capital Improvement Plan will be done in the next year. Rebecca Smith informed the Committee that the brush piles have been removed and tee yardage markers for Blackhawk have been purchased. The Committee also discussed changing logos to start a brand for the courses. Jan Bruss also suggested changing the scorecards.
