Approval of June 4, 2012 meeting minutes Please find attached the minutes of the last meeting for the committee’s review and approval. Presentations regarding role and purpose of the Police & Fire Commission At the March meeting, the group shared interest in hearing a presentation from the Police & Fire Commission staff to better understand the purpose of this commission. Human Resources Director Sue Musick will be present at the meeting to provide a brief presentation. Following the presentation, you will have the opportunity to ask questions. Selection of recommended nominees for the following Boards, Commissions and Committees There are vacancies on the Citizen Advisory Committee on Appointments and the Plan Commission. Please find attached a fact sheet for each committee’s vacancy. Also attached are the application forms for the individuals interested in serving. While the Citizens Advisory Committee on Appointments is not officially authorized to make recommendations for nominees to the Plan Commission, the City Manager has asked this committee to provide a recommendation regarding this appointment. Following any committee discussion, staff asks the committee recommend applicants for nomination for these vacancies. Members may make a motion to nominate an applicant; once a second is received, a vote will be taken. A simple majority is needed (3 of 5 votes). Attachments: 6/4/12 minutes Fact sheets Applications Record of Citizen Advisory Committee on Appointments June 4, 2012 Page 1 Meeting of the City of Janesville Citizen Advisory Committee on Appointments held in the Municipal Building first floor conference room on June 4, 2012 Committee Members Present: Ron Combs, Judith Detert-Moriarty, Larry Squire Staff Present: Rebecca Smith, Richard Haviza, Al Hulick Agenda Items Roll Call The meeting began at approximately 1:35PM with Combs, Detert-Moriarty, andSquire present. Squire served as the temporary meeting chair. Presentations regarding role and purpose of the Citizens Boardof Review and Sustainable Janesville Committee Smith introduced Haviza and Hulick and informed the committee that they would share information regarding the Citizens Board of Review and Sustainable Janesville Committee, respectively, as requested by the Committee at the March meeting. Haviza shared an overview of the Board of Review, including the role and purpose and attributes that are helpful for Board of Review volunteers. Hulick shared an overview of the Sustainable Janesville Committee, including therole and purpose of the committee, projects the committee is working on,such as the Green Action Plan and attributes that are helpful for Sustainable Janesville volunteers. Selection of recommended nominees for the following Boards, Commissions and Committees Citizens Board of Review Following committee discussion,Squire motioned to recommend Phillip Yoss fill the Alternate #1 vacancy. Combs seconded the motion and the vote was 3-0-0 in favor.The committee shared they did not have a recommendation forthe Alternate #2 vacancy and suggested additional volunteers be sought. Matters Not on the Agenda Smith shared that the next time there is a vacancy on another committee, the appointment committee vacancy will also be announced. At the next meeting the appointment committee should also elect a chair and the committee will hear a presentation from a Police and Fire Commission staff representative.
