RE: Activities update
Since I may not be at the meeting on Tuesday, as my wife and I may be busy with our
newest addition to the family, I thought I would quickly update you on a couple
activities.
Last week was National Library Week and to promote the event we once again had our
“Give a Reason, Take a Reisen” promotion. Library users would let us know what they
loved about their library, and once they did so they were allowed to take a Reisen
chocolate candy. We also had the fines lottery which gave every patron with a zero
balance on their account a chance to win a prize, and we finished off the week with our
Incredible Edible book contest.
In conjunction with National Library Week our intern, Sarah Byrnes, had interviewed a
number of library staff and wrote up brief bios on everyone, describing things that they
did outside of their normal day-to-day activities here at the library (credit goes to Dave
Carlson for giving us this idea). Sarah did a real nice job with the bios and with creating
the display of books and materials to highlight the activities a number of us are involved
in outside of Hedberg Public Library.

On Saturday, April 21, we will be hosting a civics course in the Program Room. This is
a project from my Certified Public Manager (CPM) class that I am finishing up through
the UW-Extension. For our group project we decided to create a one-week civics
thth
curriculum that a teacher could use in their classroom (targeted age was 7 -10 grade).
Our group wanted to do a test of the curriculum and youth from our TAB group will be
participating in the project. After the test run we will make necessary adjustments and
then have the information posted to the web for teachers and home-school parents to use
in teaching civics classes.
