Fire Department Memorandum
October 10, 2011
TO: Eric Levitt, City Manager
FROM: Jim Jensen, Fire Chief
SUBJECT: Vehicle Replacement Schedule
In order to plan for Fire Department vehicle replacement, certain assumptions
have been made. The life expectancy of vehicles is as follows:
Vehicle Est. Service Years
Ambulances 10
Rescue-Pumpers 15
Quints 15
Specialized Rescue 15
Tender 15
Brush Truck 7
Command Unit 7
Utility/Inspector Units 7
Support Unit 7
Vehicles will be evaluated each year and are submitted for replacement through
the note issue process.
The note issue amount in 2011 is $1,000,000. The 1990 tender, the 1997 75’
Aerial Quint, the 1999 one-ton brush truck, and the 1998 S-10 are scheduled for
replacement in 2011/2012. The 1997 Quint will be replaced with a Rescue-
Pumper. The Specialized Rescue Vehicle and Tender were evaluated and
extended to 15 years of Service, and the Command Unit was extended to seven
years of service.
Two vehicles were considered for replacement in 2012. They include a 1991
Specialized Rescue Vehicle and a 1997 105’ Aerial Quint. Funding for these
vehicle replacements is included in the Major Capital Projects budget.
