XIV.PUBLIC COMMENT
None
XV.CONSIDERATION OF COMMENDATIONS
Committee Member Backenkeller recommended that the organizers
of the Rock River Clean Up Day, Dave Peterson and Dave Wirth be
recognized for their efforts.
Committee Member Backenkeller also recommended that Roosevelt
Elementary School be recognized for the Community Garden.
XVI.SUBCOMMITEE UPDATES
a.Green Action Plan subcommittee update (Rollette, Backenkeller)
No update
b.RAH Program subcommittee update (Backenkeller)
Backenkeller indicated that she will be setting up a meeting with
Shelley Slapak of the Recreation Department and Sherman
Sanitation to discuss better options for special events.
The Committee discussed additional signage for larger scaled
special events such as Rock Around The Block to better control
recycling efforts.
c.Solid Waste Alternatives subcommittee update (Backenkeller)
Backenkeller discussed the possibility of implementing a shingle
ban/recycling program for the Janesville Landfill.
Backenkeller discussed the idea of going to single stream recycling
and allowing for Plastics Nos. 1-7 to be allowed, similar to Rock
Disposal. Hulick and Rashkin indicated this would need to be a
budgetary consideration for the City Council.

XVII.NEW BUSINESS

XVIII.CITY STAFF UPDATE (Hulick)
Hulick provided a brief update regarding the City’s Award of $400,000
in USEPA Brownfields Funding
XIX.CITY COUNCIL UPDATE (Rashkin)
Rashkin updated the Committee regarding the potential Downtown
Historic Overlay restrictions that may come into effect after the Plan
Commission reviews the changes.
XX.MATTERS NOT ON THE AGENDA
Bishop indicated that he spoke with Waste Management about
potentially placing a “satellite” recycling/waste drop off location on
the southside of town. Hulick indicated that this would be a budgetary
consideration for the Council.
Backenkeller reminded the Committee about the upcoming 350.org
initiative
