II.APPROVAL OF MINUTES “C”
III.PUBLIC COMMENT
Neil Deupree – invited everyone to the League of Women Voters Day
Of Action book study on September 24, 2011 at Basics Cooperative at
9:30am.
IV.CONSIDERATION OF COMMENDATIONS
Committeemember Backenkeller recommended Kay and Neil
Deupree for commendation for their role in sustainability education
and work with the League of Women Voters Climate Change
Committee.
The motion passed on a 5-0-0 vote.
V.SUBCOMMITEE UPDATES
a.Green Action Plan subcommittee update (Rollette, Backenkeller)
The Committee confirmed that Steve Hiniker from 1,000 Friends will
be providing the Committee, City Council, and all other interested
attendees a presentation on the Green Tier Community Program on
May 17 at 6:30pm in the City Council Chambers.

b.RAH Program subcommittee update (Backenkeller)
Committeemember Backenkeller indicated that she will be working
with the new Recreation Director, Shelley Slapak on the Special
Events Recycling Program.
Hulick
c.Award Program subcommittee update (Bishop, Hulick)
provided the Committee with an update of the awards program.
The Committee discussed how the awards would be presented at
the City Council meeting on Monday April 25.

d.Solid Waste Alternatives subcommittee update (Backenkeller)
Committee discussed Governor Walkers intentions to back off his
budget proposal to remove the Recycling Grant. The Committee
will be watching this closely.
The Committee discussed how to
e.Natural Step Discussion (Rollette)
best approach the Natural Step Study Circle. The Committee
agreed to begin the Study Circle at their June meeting. The
Committee will hold their regular business meeting first, take public
comment, and address any actionable items. Once all regular
business has been addressed, the Committee will discuss The
Natural Step text. The Committee hopes to complete this Study
Circle within 4 meetings. Committeemember Rollette will lead the
Study Circle.
f.Committee Publicity (Conley)
i.Update on Earth Week booth at Rotary Gardens
Committeemember Conely passed around a sign-up sheet to
occupy the booth at the Rotary Gardens Earth Day event on
Friday April 22 and Saturday April 23. Hulick indicated that he
would bring City materials for the booth and set up and tear
down the booth. Committeemember Backenkeller indicated
that she would be receiving information from the WisDNR to
provide at the booth.

X.MATTERS NOT ON THE AGENDA
Committeemember Hyzer asked if the group could help organize a
clean-up effort along Racine Street due to the large amount of trash
and debris found along the roadway.
Committeemember Douglas asked if there was any centralized
location that the City offered or could offer for battery and light bulb
collection. It was suggested that this information be provided on the
SJC’s webpage once the City’s website is updated and live.
