IV. NEW BUSINESS
1. Update on Sustainable Business Recognition Program (Bishop)
Committee Member Bishop provided an update regarding his work on the
Sustainable Business Recognition Program. Bishop recommended that any
award that we provide be made out of recycled materials, and the Committee
agreed. Hulick suggested the Committee develop a rating criterion for the
program with an award to be offered to: Best Civic Group, Best Small-Business,
Best Larger Business. Hulick suggested that the criterion were in place by the
end of the year, we could advertise the program in December /January, and then
th
award the first ever Sustainable Business Awards at the April 11 City Council
meeting to correspond with Earth Day. The Committee agreed with this
approach.
2. Update on Natural Step Study Circles (Backenkeller, et. al.)
Committee
Member Backenkeller provided a brief update on the Natural Step Study Circles.
3. Update on Purchase of Agricultural Conservation Easement (PACE)
Program (Backenkeller)
Committee Member Backenkeller provided a brief
update on the PACE Program. Backenkeller indicated that the PACE Advisory
Committee would be voting on the compromised plan at their next meeting
(October 20, 2010)

VI. SUBCOMMITEE UPDATES
1. Update on Recycle Away From Home Program (RAH), if necessary
(Backenkeller)
Committee Member Backenkeller provided a brief update on the
Recycle Away From Home program. Backenkeller will be meeting with City Staff
before the end of the year to amend the program accordingly.
VIII. CITY STAFF UPDATE
1. USEPA Brownfield Site Assessment Initiative
Hulick provided an update
regarding the City’s Brownfield initiative. The City hopes to receive word on their
grant application by Spring 2011.
2. Natural Step Book Purchase
Hulick indicated that he will have purchased
the books by the next meeting in November.
IX. CITY COUNCIL UPDATE
1. 2011 Budget Study Session
Perrotto provided an update on the Council’s
action regarding the Sidewalk Program and the 2011 Budget Study Sessions.
VIII. MATTERS NOT ON THE AGENDA
Backenkeller indicated that she had recently provided presentations to the Rotary
Club and the Bower City Garden Clubs.
Backenkeller encouraged Committee members to get involved with the Lunch
Buddy Program through the Janesville School District.
Hulick indicated that Committee Member Griffin had resigned from the
Committee and the position will be advertised as vacant before the end of the
year.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:45pm.
