MEMORANDUM
TO: Library Board

RE: Board Policy A502 Interlibrary Loan Service
Theresa Biele, who handles Interlibrary Loan (ILL) duties, and Mary Buelow, Head of
Reference, noted that the Interlibrary Loan Service policy was out-of-date and that
several changes were needed. Some of these changes were due to the changeover to the
shared catalog with the Arrowhead Library System, and others may be due to procedural
changes at the state level. In any case staff felt there was a need to update the policy.
Theresa and Mary made several recommendations to the Management Team. After
discussion we agreed that several items needed updating, including:

Updating language to reflect our status as a member of the shared ALS catalog.

Language stating that all ALS cardholders may place ILL requests at Hedberg (we
are the resource library for ALS and this service is part of our contract).

In order to request an ILL item a patron must have no more than $10 in fines.

Added language stating that the loan period for each item is set by the lending
library.
?
Overdue fines for ILL items was increased to $1.00 per day (from 50 cents).
?
Dropped language that no longer is part of our ILL service (outside of the
Wisconsin State Interloan Service).
In your board packet you will receive a copy of the old policy with the upcoming changes
(both additions and subtractions). You will also receive a copy of the new ‘proposed’
policy (easier to read and see what the changes represent).
