Minutes 7-14-09 LEISURE SERVICES ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES JULY 14, 2009 7:00 PM st 1 FLOOR CONFERENCE ROOM Members Present: Sandra Hendricks, Steve Ellis, Betty Schwarz, Lynn Jones, Kevin Reilly, Jeff Clark, Lorie Markus, William Truman, Douglas Derby and Jayme Roth Staff Present: Bonnie Davis The meeting was called to order at 7PM in the Leisure Services Conference Room by Chairperson Lorie Markus. TH APPROVAL OF MAY 12, 2009 MEETING MINUTES The minutes of the May meeting were approved. UPDATE ON ICE CENTER OPERATIONS Bonnie Davis provided an update on Ice Center operations. The Ice Center remains open during the renovation project. The $200,000 renovation is underway and will include a shower room for the JETS NAHL team, a new concession area, party room and offices for the Jets. The project is scheduled to be completed by September 2, th 2009 just in time for the Jets first game which is Saturday, September 5. During the renovation an office/skate rental area has been set up and public skate sessions, camps and hockey are being offered. The former Ice Center Manager, Cullen Slapak has been promoted within the Department to Assistant Parks Director. The Ice Center manager’s position he vacated will be advertised sometime in the Fall. Ice Center staff and operations will be supervised by the Recreation Director AQUATICS UPDATE Bonnie Davis provided an update concerning Aquatic operations. Bonnie stated that all three pools will be compliant with the Virginia Graeme Baker Act before opening for the season. Rockport Pool repairs have been completed and both Palmer and Riverside wading pools are in the process of becoming compliant. She stated that we are one of only a handful of communities that have become compliant for the 2009 swimming season. With the hot weather both Palmer wading pool and Rockport Pool were extremely busy. To ensure the safety and well being of our patrons, shade tents were erected at Rockport, water was handed out and patrons were reminded often to drink a lot of water and seek shade if they became overheated. Rockport Pool experienced two days of 1,000 plus patrons. The painting and caulking is completed at Riverside wading pool. The Virginia Graeme Baker project has been inspected at Riverside and passed. The filtration system will be th up and running on July 16. The chain link fence will be installed this week. On st Monday, July 21 the Department of Health will conduct their inspection. If all goes well nd the wading pool will be open on July 22.
