3. Beloit Course Improvements
City of Beloit golf improvements
(from Max Gagin, administrative intern)
Golf Course Advisory Committee member Curt Terry requested at the August
committee meeting information on how the City of Beloit funds its golf course capitol
improvement projects. He noticed that the City of Beloit golf course made improvements
lately, specifically to the bunkers.
I spoke with Golf Course and Horticultural Supervisor Mark Young on Beloit’s recent
capitol improvement to Krueger-Haskell Golf Course. He said that specific capitol
improvements are prepared in the proposed Golf Course budget the year that the
project is to take place and are financed through the General Fund. Specifically, Mark
said that improvements to 5 bunkers were included in their capitol improvements
section of the 2009 Golf Course budget. He also provided me with the cost of redoing
the 5 bunkers this year, which was $3,000 for new bunker sand, not accounting for in-
house labor costs. Lastly, he commented that for the proposed 2010 Golf Course
budget, capitol improvement funds will be reduced and many proposed projects are
likely to be suspended indefinitely due to recent economic times.
