Question and Answer Session with City Manager, Eric Levitt (30 min)
City Manager Eric Levitt provided a brief presentation on three areas of
discussion: 1.) Where is the City going with Sustainability, 2.) Feedback on
the Green Building Resolution, 3.) Comments on a City Committee versus a
Citizen Advocacy group. Levitt first provided some feedback regarding the
Committee’s proposed Green Building Resolution. Levitt indicated that he
and staff were concerned with some of the cost implications of the plan and
the amount of staff time that would need to be devoted to oversee the
implementation of the resolution. Levitt also discussed his idea of having an
organizational “Green Team” made up of City Staff members.
Second, Levitt commented on where he feels the City is going with
Sustainability. Levitt indicated that the City’s budget was a huge priority.
Levitt indicated that by September 30, he hoped to have a sustainability plan
for the organization. Lastly, he further described his idea of an organizational
“Green Team” made up of voluntary City Staff members.
Lastly, Levitt provided some brief comments regarding City Committee’s
versus Citizen Advocacy Groups. Levitt used the example of the
Committee’s request to have a Facebook page and cautioned the group on
the implications of such a media.
A discussion ensued between the Committee and Levitt regarding some of
his suggested changes to the Green Building Resolution. Committee
member Perrotto suggested that members of the Committee should meet
directly with City Staff to discuss some of the suggested changes.
2.
Update by Dave Lou on City Street Lighting (30 min)
Dave Lou, Manager of Tech Services, provided a presentation regarding the
benefits of Induction Street Lighting versus conventional Street Lighting and
LED Street Lighting. Lou provided a response to some of the points raised
by the sales team from Beta Kramer LED. Lou indicated several areas where
he felt Induction out-preformed other types of street lighting and noted how
induction has been tested over the years and preformed well.
