ROLL CALL Members Present: Perrotto, Backenkeller, Cunningham, Hyzer, Peterson, Swanson, Mills, Udell Members Absent: None Staff Present: Al Hulick, Eric Levitt, Dave Lou II. APPROVAL OF MINUTES “C” III. PUBLIC COMMENT Dustin Botz and Chris Cullen of Beta Kramer LED provided a presentation regarding the benefits of LED Street Lights. Botz and Cullen provided various facts regarding the failure rate, energy and cost savings, illumination and spill rates, and how LED compares to conventional street lights and induction lighting. IV. NEW BUSINESS None V. OLD BUSINESS 1. Question and Answer Session with City Manager, Eric Levitt (30 min) City Manager Eric Levitt provided a brief presentation on three areas of discussion: 1.) Where is the City going with Sustainability, 2.) Feedback on the Green Building Resolution, 3.) Comments on a City Committee versus a Citizen Advocacy group. Levitt first provided some feedback regarding the Committee’s proposed Green Building Resolution. Levitt indicated that he and staff were concerned with some of the cost implications of the plan and the amount of staff time that would need to be devoted to oversee the implementation of the resolution. Levitt also discussed his idea of having an organizational “Green Team” made up of City Staff members. Second, Levitt commented on where he feels the City is going with Sustainability. Levitt indicated that the City’s budget was a huge priority. Levitt indicated that by September 30, he hoped to have a sustainability plan for the organization. Lastly, he further described his idea of an organizational “Green Team” made up of voluntary City Staff members. Lastly, Levitt provided some brief comments regarding City Committee’s versus Citizen Advocacy Groups. Levitt used the example of the Committee’s request to have a Facebook page and cautioned the group on the implications of such a media. A discussion ensued between the Committee and Levitt regarding some of his suggested changes to the Green Building Resolution. Committee member Perrotto suggested that members of the Committee should meet directly with City Staff to discuss some of the suggested changes. 2. Update by Dave Lou on City Street Lighting (30 min) Dave Lou, Manager of Tech Services, provided a presentation regarding the benefits of Induction Street Lighting versus conventional Street Lighting and LED Street Lighting. Lou provided a response to some of the points raised by the sales team from Beta Kramer LED. Lou indicated several areas where he felt Induction out-preformed other types of street lighting and noted how induction has been tested over the years and preformed well. A discussion ensued amongst the Committee and Lou regarding a multitude of street lighting issues and concerns. 3. Action on the Green Building Resolution (15 min) Dan Swanson and Katie Udell gave a brief overview of the presentation they th hoped to provide to the City Council at their August 24 meeting. However, action on the Green Building Resolution was tabled. VI. CITY STAFF UPDATE 1. RAH Recycling Away from Home (20 min) th The presentation of this item was tabled to the August 18 meeting. VII.
